Anthony Joshua cemented his status as the best pound for pound heavyweight boxer on the planet after overpowering his challenger Carlos Takam at the Cardiff Principality Stadium.

Joshua retains his belts and to 20-0 with 20 knockouts, even if this was hardly the showcase that many observers expected.

It was a bloody bout in Cardiff, and Joshua picked up an injury early on and may have broken his nose after a clash of heads.

Takam, 36, took the fight with 12 days’ notice after Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev picked up an injury.

The Cameroon-born fighter caught Joshua with some shots, but they didn’t have enough power to hurt the champion.

In the 10th round, the referee stepped in to stop the fight after Joshua caught Takam with a hook-uppercut combination and was moving in to land more blows.

Joshua had only boxed 55 rounds professionally entering tonight’s bout. He has added 10 more to that ledger.
