Argentina coach rejects Messi’s retirement plans, says he may still compete in another World Cup after Qatar 2022
Lionel Messi may have stated that Qatar 2022 will be his final World Cup, but Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni hopes that won’t be the case.
Messi, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, will compete in the international championship for the fifth time when it begins later this month.
In an interview last month, Messi, who will turn 39 during the 2026 tournament, said that this would be “surely, yes,” his final World Cup.
If Argentina makes it to the upcoming finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, Scaloni is confident the former Barcelona star will still contribute to the team.
