Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United defender Habeeb Ogunneye, according to Telegraph Sport.

The 20-year-old, who was born in London and is eligible to represent Nigeria through his heritage, spent part of last season on loan at Newport County, where he made 21 appearances before returning to United in January.

Ogunneye has also been included in several Manchester United first-team matchday squads, including the FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City in 2024.

Arsenal’s interest comes after Manchester United successfully signed two promising players from the north London club in recent seasons. Defender Ayden Heaven and striker Chido Obi both left the Emirates Stadium for Old Trafford.

Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring Ogunneye’s 19-year-old Manchester United teammate James Scanlon, who joined the club from Derby County in 2021.

Scanlon has already made 24 international appearances for Gibraltar, the country of his mother’s birth. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Swindon Town and is reportedly set to join Arsenal on a two-year deal, with an option to extend for another 12 months.

Ogunneye is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria at senior international level.

The defender previously represented England at U17 level, making three appearances between 2021 and 2022. Both England and Nigeria have monitored his development ahead of a potential senior international decision.

England U21 manager Lee Carsley has described Ogunneye as a “possible future star,” highlighting the Football Association’s interest in securing his international future.
