Aston Villa have shown interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
The 24-year-old is facing a potentially uncertain summer as he enters the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, with no progress on a renewal.
Villa, along with Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham, have expressed interest in Gallagher. However, the England international remains open to staying with his boyhood club, which he joined at the age of eight.
Both Chelsea and Villa, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, must consider Premier League profit and sustainability rules in their summer plans.
Selling academy products like Gallagher helps generate ‘pure profit,’ giving clubs more flexibility in their spending. Chelsea might also sell players such as center-back Trevoh Chalobah, left-back Ian Maatsen, and forward Armando Broja.
Chelsea had shown interest in Villa striker Jhon Duran, 20, in January and continue to seek attacking signings. They are also expected to sign Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.
