Barcelona penalized for fans’ racial abuse during PSG match
Barcelona has been penalized for racist conduct and other misconduct exhibited by their fans during their Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Paris St-Germain.
Apart from the incidents of racism, Uefa has also charged Barcelona for their supporters’ actions of setting off fireworks and causing damage at the Parc des Princes.
As a consequence, the Spanish club is required to pay a fine of 32,000 euros (£27,000).
Despite winning 3-2 in Paris, Barcelona faced a 4-1 defeat in Tuesday’s reverse fixture at home, resulting in their elimination from the Champions League.
Furthermore, Barcelona has been prohibited from selling away tickets to their supporters for their next Uefa competition match as punishment for the racist behavior. However, this ban is subject to suspension for a probationary period of one year.
Additionally, Barcelona must initiate communication with Paris St-Germain, who are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals, within 30 days to address the damages caused by their supporters in the stadium.
