Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal tops Saka, Martinelli as best U-23 winger

Lamine Yamal has been receiving widespread acclaim this season for his displays with Barcelona. The 16-year-old made a remarkable entrance onto the stage earlier this year and has been setting records with ease.

In the rankings of Under-23 wingers across Europe’s top five leagues, he has secured the top spot, surpassing well-established stars such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

According to statistics from the CIES Football Observatory, the Barcelona prodigy leads the pack, boasting an impressive 56% success rate in his dribbling attempts. He averages 6.0 dribbles per 90 minutes.

The rankings encompass players who have accumulated a minimum of 450 domestic minutes this season.

Intriguing insights into the top 10 legendary AC Milan players of all time. Martinelli claimed the second position with a 65% success rate but made 4.9 dribble attempts per 90 minutes. Saka secured the 7th spot with a 64% success rate, maintaining an average of 4.4 dribbles per 90 minutes.

The remaining players in the top five include Luca Koleosho of Burnley, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli, and Savio Moreira of Girona.

Yamal has had an extraordinary year, marked by record-breaking achievements since his debut for the Spanish giants in April. At just 15 years and 290 days, he became Barcelona’s youngest-ever player when he came on as a substitute in a match against Real Betis.

A few months later, in September, he made history again by becoming Spain’s youngest player and goal scorer at the age of 16 years and 57 days, surpassing the record previously held by his Barcelona teammate Gavi, who achieved that feat at 17 years and 62 days.
