Bayern Munich struck three times in the final half hour to secure a 3–0 victory over 10-man Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, maintaining their five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Joshua Kimmich, Raphael Guerreiro, and 17-year-old Lennart Karl all found the net as Bayern extended their perfect record to 13 wins from 13 matches in all competitions this season.
It was only the second match this season in which Harry Kane failed to score, though the England striker had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half.
Mönchengladbach were reduced to ten men after 19 minutes when Jens Castrop’s reckless challenge on Luis Díaz was upgraded from a yellow to a red card following a VAR review.
Despite their numerical advantage, Bayern — who made six changes, including Jonas Urbig replacing captain Manuel Neuer in goal — struggled to find rhythm against the league’s bottom side.
Kimmich eventually broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, firing through a crowded penalty area. Guerreiro doubled the lead five minutes later, calmly finishing off a flowing team move.
Gladbach’s slim hopes of a comeback evaporated when Kevin Stoeger struck the post from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining.
Teenager Karl sealed the victory with a superb curling effort nine minutes from time, capping a dominant second-half display from the defending champions.
In other Bundesliga fixtures, RB Leipzig cruised to a 6–0 victory at Augsburg, with six different players — Yan Diomande, Romulo, Antonio Nusa, Christoph Baumgartner, Assan Ouedraogo, and Castello Lukeba — all getting on the scoresheet. The result marked Augsburg’s heaviest home defeat in league history.
Since their opening-day 6–0 loss to Bayern, Leipzig have collected 19 of a possible 21 points from seven matches, conceding just three goals.
Eintracht Frankfurt bounced back from Wednesday’s 5–1 Champions League defeat to Liverpool with a 2–0 home win over St Pauli, courtesy of a brace from Germany striker Jonathan Burkardt, who now has six goals in seven league appearances.
Elsewhere, Wolfsburg claimed their first victory since August, edging Hamburg 1–0 thanks to a goal from Adam Daghim. Hamburg winger Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer missed a first-half penalty — his third consecutive failure from the spot.
Hoffenheim defeated struggling Heidenheim 3–1, while Borussia Dortmund can climb to third place if they beat Cologne in Saturday’s late kick-off.
