Chelsea has confirmed that Carney Chukwuemeka has already undergone surgery on a knee injury that he sustained in the first half of Sunday’s 3-1 loss to West Ham. The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the club in the match before being forced off with the injury.

Reports have it that Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after sustaining a knee injury in a collision with Emerson Palmieri during the match at London Stadium.

Carney Chukwuemeka could be out for up to seven matches, with his most likely return date being the game against Arsenal on October 21, after the second international break.

On Chealses website, it stated that, “Carney Chukwuemeka sustained an injury to his left knee during our game against West Ham United on Sunday.

“Last night Carney underwent surgery and will now begin his recovery.

“The 19-year-old will work with the club’s medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham.”

Chelsea have a total of eight senior players sidelined with injuries, a record only bettered by Aston Villa and Sheffield United. Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah recently joined Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana on the sidelines after they all suffered knee injuries in pre-season.

Armando Broja, Benoit Badiashile, and Marcus Bettinelli are all still recovering from injuries that they sustained last season.

Chelsea’s injury problems are a major concern, especially after the club’s radical overhaul of the medical department saw the departure of long-serving heads of department Thierry Laurent and Paco Biosca.

The Blues then had the worst injury record of any Premier League team in the 2022/23 season, missing a combined 1,836 days and 216 games during the 2022/23 season.
