Craig Bellamy named acting head coach at Burnley
Craig Bellamy will assume interim managerial duties at Burnley following Vincent Kompany’s departure.
Belgian Kompany has taken up the role of head coach at Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich after Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.
While the Clarets actively seek a permanent replacement, they have appointed former Liverpool and Newcastle forward Bellamy as acting head coach in the interim.
Welshman Bellamy, aged 44, previously served as assistant manager under Kompany at Anderlecht before joining him at Turf Moor.
First team coach Mike Jackson, who temporarily led the side after Sean Dyche’s departure during the 2021-22 season, has been appointed assistant head coach.
Burnley expressed their confidence in Bellamy and Jackson, citing their extensive experience and deep understanding of the club as factors that make them ideal candidates to lead the team at this crucial juncture.
Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard, as well as Scott Parker, who previously managed Fulham and Bournemouth, have been linked with the job. Meanwhile, former Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has ruled himself out of contention.
