Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be sidelined for the remainder of the season following successful surgery to address a groin problem.

The 23-year-old Argentine international will miss Chelsea’s final six Premier League matches of the 2023-24 season due to his injury. However, he could aim for a comeback in time for the Copa America, which kicks off on June 20.

Fernandez transferred to Chelsea from Benfica for a British record fee of £107 million at the close of the 2023 winter transfer window.

This move followed his recognition as the young player of the tournament during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory.

During a challenging season for the club, Fernandez has made 40 appearances for the Blues, scoring seven goals.
