Ex-Man Utd defender Varane joins Fabregas’ Como

France defender Raphaël Varane has signed with newly-promoted Serie A side Como.

The 31-year-old, who became a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired this summer, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Italian club.

Varane, a 2018 World Cup winner, previously enjoyed success at Real Madrid, securing three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies before spending three years at Old Trafford.

He also earned 93 caps for France before retiring from international football last year.

Como, making their return to Italy’s top flight after a 21-year absence, appointed former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas as their head coach following their promotion.

“I will meet Cesc again, but this time not as an opponent,” Varane said.

“I am very happy, I really like his playing philosophy and his passion for football.”
