Manchester United have named Michael Carrick as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the club is finalising the details of Carrick’s appointment, including arrangements for his backroom team.

“Michael Carrick signs in as new Manchester United caretaker manager until the end of the season. Verbal agreement since yesterday, now sorted in all details + backroom staff also. #MUFC official announcement to follow next,” Romano tweeted.

Carrick, 41, returns to the Old Trafford dugout in a managerial role after previously serving as an assistant coach at the club and stepping in during transitional periods. The former England midfielder is highly regarded within Manchester United, having played for the club from 2006 to 2018, winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, FA Cups, and several other domestic and European honours.

His appointment follows a period of inconsistent performances by the club in the Premier League and Europa competitions. Michael Carrick inherits the task of stabilizing the team, boosting player confidence, and guiding Manchester United toward a strong finish to the season. Fans and analysts are eager to see how a former player and long-time club servant will handle the challenges of the managerial role.

Carrick’s deep understanding of Manchester United’s culture, youth system, and first-team squad is expected to be an important asset. He has previously worked closely with managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Erik ten Hag, providing continuity and insider knowledge during this transitional phase.

Michael Carrick will have Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion on his staff, while Darren Fletcher returns to manage the U21 team.

As Manchester United approach their upcoming fixtures, attention will be focused on Carrick to see if his leadership can reverse the team’s recent struggles and restore confidence in one of England’s most celebrated football clubs.
