Tottenham has been charged by the Football Association (FA) following alleged homophobic chants by their fans during a 3-0 victory at Manchester United earlier this season.
The reported chanting occurred in the 49th and 79th minutes of the Premier League match at Old Trafford on 29 September.
After the game, Spurs condemned the “abhorrent homophobic chanting” as “simply unacceptable” and pledged to take the “strongest possible action.”
The club faces two charges under FA Rule E21, which addresses fan conduct at matches, specifically “misconduct in relation to crowd control.”
In a statement, the FA stated that Tottenham “failed to ensure” that fans “conduct themselves in an orderly fashion” and “avoid language or behavior that is improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting, with either explicit or implied references to sexual orientation.”
Spurs have until next Wednesday to respond to the FA regarding the charge.
