Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has broken his silence over the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for Qatar 2022, saying he would have done better.

Rohr was sacked by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) after qualifying the Super Eagles for AFCON and the World Cup qualifier play-off.

At the Nations Cup, the Super Eagles had the worst showing for a Nigerian side, crashing out at the Round of 16 under the tutelage of Coach Austin Eguavoen.

Eguavoen also failed to win the play-off to qualify the Eagles for Qatar World Cup.

Speaking on Friday, Rohr said failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the tournament was a big disappointment.

He said Nigeria had the better players, but that it was not enough to qualify because they did not work collectively as a team.

Rohr added that those who were responsible for the team must be asked to speak about this disappointment and why he was sacked as well because “I would have done better.”

He stated that his compassion is with the players, the staff and all the fans who were so passionate, saying that Qatar 2022 was their target since the last World Cup in Russia.

The former Eagles coach lamented that for most of the players, the World Cup in Qatar was their last chance to play.

“At least reach the quarter-final of the World Cup and give Nigerian football a good image as we had in the last five years,” he told The Punch.
