Italian legend Giorgio Chiellini has declared his retirement, labeling his career as “the most beautiful and intense journey of my life.”

At 39 years old, Giorgio Chiellini, who led the Azzurri to victory in Euro 2020, has decided to retire after a remarkable 23-year playing career. Having made a name for himself at Juventus, he joined Major League Soccer (MLS) with Los Angeles FC in June 2022.

Unfortunately, LAFC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup final last Saturday.

Posting on X, Chiellini added: “You have been my everything. With you I have travelled a unique and unforgettable path.

“But now it is time to start new chapters, face new challenges and write further important and exciting pages of life.”

Chiellini initiated his professional journey with Livorno in 2000, ultimately solidifying his standing as a Serie A icon in Turin.

As a center-half, he played a pivotal role in Juventus securing nine consecutive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2020, along with clinching the Coppa Italia five times.

Retiring from international football in 2022, Chiellini amassed 117 caps for Italy, scoring eight goals.

Juventus paid tribute to their former player, saying: “For Juventus fans, for 17 seasons, the number three stood for one thing, and one thing only: Giorgio Chiellini.

“You were always by our side, like a superhero ready to intervene if necessary.”
