Harry Kane asserts that Bayern Munich “will never surrender,” following the England captain’s stoppage-time winning goal against RB Leipzig, which propelled the German giants back to their winning form.
Kane placed in a brilliant strike late on after also opening the scoring with a left-footed finish, before Benjamin Sesko scored for Leipzig.
The win was their first in three league games and keeps them eight points behind leaders Leverkusen.
“We have to push them,” said Kane.
“We need to keep doing what we’re doing. It was good to win this game and we need to go on a run until the end of the year.”
Kane has now scored 27 Bundesliga goals and 31 in all competitions since joining from Spurs in the summer.
He added: “We’ll never give up, we’ll never stop.”
Bayern Munich remains in second place in the Bundesliga, trailing unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen by eight points.
The victory comes shortly after Bayern confirmed that head coach Thomas Tuchel will depart at the conclusion of the season.
Despite clinching the German championship for the past 11 seasons, Bayern faces the prospect of finishing the campaign without securing any silverware. They suffered a defeat in the German Super Cup in August and were eliminated from the German Cup in the second round by third-tier Saarbrucken in November.
Tuchel’s team experienced setbacks with a 3-0 loss against Leverkusen on February 10th and a 3-2 defeat against Bochum last weekend. Additionally, they were defeated 1-0 by Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie earlier in the week.
Kane’s remarkable scoring continues
Currently, Kane leads the Bundesliga scoring charts, extending his lead over Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy by nine goals with his latest brace.
Moreover, he has outscored every other player in Europe’s top five leagues by six goals, with Paris St-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe trailing behind with 21 goals.
Kane has already surpassed Kevin Keegan and Jadon Sancho to become the highest-scoring Englishman in a Bundesliga season.
His goal against Bochum last Saturday set a new record for the fastest player to reach 25 Bundesliga goals in a single season, achieving this feat in just 22 games, surpassing the previous record held by former Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. Additionally, he surpassed Luca Toni’s Bayern record of 25 goals in a debut season.
Despite his impressive performance, the 30-year-old still has a long way to go to break Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record of 41 goals in the 2020-21 season. With 11 league games remaining, Kane needs 14 goals to equal Lewandowski’s tally.
Furthermore, he has the opportunity to surpass his own top-scoring season of 41 goals in 48 games for Tottenham in 2017-18.
