Lille defender set for Man Utd medical before £52m move

Manchester United are on the verge of signing Lille defender Leny Yoro.

Reports state indicate that United have agreed to a €62 million (£52.06 million) fee for Yoro, who is expected to fly to Manchester today for a medical examination.

The 18-year-old has garnered significant interest from several top European clubs, with Real Madrid frequently mentioned as a potential suitor.

Yoro, who debuted for Lille at 16, was initially included in Thierry Henry’s provisional France squad for the Olympic Games but was omitted from the final roster due to Lille’s involvement in the Champions League qualification rounds.

His signing would bring some clarity to United’s central defensive lineup.

The club has submitted two bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, both of which were rejected as they fell short of Everton’s valuation, believed to be over £75 million.

United have also been in talks with Bayern Munich regarding their Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Sources suggest that while United remain interested in both Branthwaite and De Ligt, they would not sign both, with further acquisitions likely dependent on available squad space and funds.

Raphael Varane left the club at the end of the season, and there are doubts about the future of Sweden’s Victor Lindelof, whose contract expires next year.

Harry Maguire received bids from other Premier League clubs last summer but chose to stay at Old Trafford, eventually making 22 Premier League appearances.

Last week, Joshua Zirkzee, 23, became the club’s first signing of the summer, arriving in a £36.5 million deal from Italian side Bologna.

United have also agreed on a £27 million fee with French club Marseille for striker Mason Greenwood, while defender Willy Kambwala joined La Liga side Villarreal last week for a fee of around £9 million.
