Liverpool reject Southampton offer for Carvalho

Liverpool have turned down a £15m offer from Southampton for Fabio Carvalho.

Despite Southampton’s long-standing interest in the 21-year-old forward, their bid is well below Liverpool’s expectations for a permanent transfer.

Carvalho has made a strong impression during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, scoring in victories over Arsenal and Manchester United.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot sees potential for Carvalho in his 4-2-3-1 formation, though he might be persuaded to sell if a significantly higher offer comes in.

With several players joining the squad late, Slot has had the chance to evaluate his young talents, and Carvalho, along with defender Sepp van den Berg, has stood out.

However, Carvalho might face limited first-team opportunities once the full squad, including forwards Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo, returns from extended breaks following Copa America and Euro 2024.

Other clubs have also shown interest in Carvalho, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull City, where he scored nine goals in 20 games. Another loan move is considered a last resort.
