Luka Modric signs one-year extension with Real Madrid

Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.

Modric, 38, has won 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four domestic championships, since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has played in 534 matches for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals.

In the 2023-24 season, Modric made 46 appearances across all competitions, though he started in only 23 of those matches.

He played in all three of Croatia’s matches at Euro 2024, with the team exiting the competition after finishing third in their group.

The midfielder’s contract was set to expire at the end of June, but his renewed presence will provide manager Carlo Ancelotti with valuable experience as he heads into his 13th season at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid has also completed the high-profile signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, with the French striker being officially unveiled on July 16.

Additionally, teenager Endrick has been brought in from Brazilian side Palmeiras to strengthen the 15-time European champions.
