Manchester City captain Walker to join AC Milan on loan

AC Milan have reached an agreement to sign Manchester City captain Kyle Walker on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to purchase the defender when the loan ends in the summer.

Walker, who has made 316 appearances for City, is set to travel to Italy for a medical.

The 34-year-old last played for City in a match against West Ham on January 4, after which he informed manager Pep Guardiola of his desire to explore potential moves abroad.

Walker prefers a move to Italy over a switch to the Saudi Pro League, where he had initially been linked.

While AC Milan have also been linked with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, registration rules in Italy limit them to signing just one player from the UK during this transfer window.

Walker has been part of all six Premier League title wins at City under Pep Guardiola, having joined from Tottenham in 2017 for £50m.

The right-back, who has 93 caps for England, was named joint-captain of City in 2023 as part of a five-player leadership group elected by his teammates.

Meanwhile, City have made three signings in the January transfer window, spending approximately £123m.

Egypt forward Omar Marmoush was signed from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m, joining Vitor Reis from Palmeiras (£30m) and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens (£33.6m).
