Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Khadija Shaw have been honored as footballers of the year by the Football Writers’ Association.

Foden, aged 23, has contributed 24 goals and 10 assists across 50 games in all competitions for City this season.

The England midfielder garnered 42% of the votes for the men’s award, edging out Declan Rice, who came second, and City teammate Rodri, who finished third.

Other top contenders included Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Foden is the third player from Manchester City to receive this accolade in the past four years, following Erling Haaland in 2023 and Ruben Dias in 2021.

“I’m immensely proud to have won this award,” said Foden. “Now I am focused on seeking to finish the season as strongly as possible and to try to help City win more trophies.”

Manchester City is just a point behind Arsenal, the current leaders in the Premier League, with a game in hand as they aim for their fourth consecutive title.

Khadija Shaw, aged 27, leads the Women’s Super League as the top scorer this season, netting 21 goals in 18 matches.

The Jamaican forward triumphed over Chelsea’s Lauren James to secure the women’s award, with her City teammate Alex Greenwood finishing third.

City midfielder Yui Hasegawa claimed fourth place, followed by Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland and City goalkeeper Khiara Keating to round out the top six.

Shaw, who will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury, has played a key role in propelling City to a six-point advantage at the top of the league standings.
