Monza shock AC Milan with two goals in added time

AC Milan, seven-time European champions, were stunned by underdogs Monza as the home team found the net twice in a frenetic finale.

Milan, with Luka Jovic receiving a red card, staged a comeback from a 2-0 deficit, courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s volley and Christian Pulisic’s 88th-minute goal. However, Warren Bondo and Lorenzo Colombo scored in stoppage time to secure Monza’s first-ever Serie A victory over Milan.

The scoring was initiated by Matteo Pessina’s penalty, followed by Dany Mota doubling the lead just before halftime.

The unexpected loss to the smaller club on the northeastern outskirts of Milan leaves Stefano Pioli’s team in third place, trailing second-placed Juventus by two points and league leaders Inter by 11.

Inter secured a 4-0 victory over Salernitana on Friday, while Juventus settled for a 2-2 draw against Verona on Saturday.

In other Serie A matches on Sunday, Roma triumphed 3-0 against Frosinone, whereas Lazio suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Bologna.

Milan’s next fixture is on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League knockout play-off against Rennes, following a 3-0 victory in the first leg at home.

Unless Milan endure a significant loss on Thursday, they will advance to the last 16 of the tournament, where they could potentially face Liverpool, West Ham United, or Brighton in the subsequent round.
