Osimhen names Calvin Bassey, Cristian Romero among toughest opponents

Victor Osimhen has listed Calvin Bassey and Cristian Romero among the most difficult defenders he has faced in his professional career.

The Super Eagles forward, known for his goal-scoring ability in Europe, praised both players for their defensive strength, aggression, and tactical awareness when discussing his toughest matchups in recent interviews.

According to him, Bassey stands out because of his strength and speed, which make one-on-one situations very challenging, especially since they also play together for Nigeria. He explained that familiarity between them makes their encounters even more competitive.

Speaking during a recent interview with River Rhodes and monitored by PUNCH Online on Wednesday, Osimhen was quoted as saying, “Calvin is very strong, very fast, and difficult to beat in one-on-one situations.

Osimhen also highlighted Romero’s qualities, describing the Tottenham defender as highly aggressive and always alert in defence, making life difficult for attackers.

He added: “Romero is another really tough defender.

“He is aggressive, always focused, and doesn’t give strikers time on the ball,”

Throughout his career in France, Italy, and European competitions, Osimhen has come up against several top-level defenders while establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.

His remarks come during another strong season in Europe, where he continues to attract interest from major clubs due to his consistent goal-scoring performances.
