Raphinha goal helps Barcelona cut Real Madrid’s lead
Barcelona maintained their pursuit of La Liga leaders Real Madrid, narrowing the gap to five points after overcoming Las Palmas.
The match turned in Barcelona’s favor when Las Palmas’ keeper, Alvaro Valles, was shown a red card in the 26th minute.
Despite Valles’ commendable form this season, his reckless challenge on Raphinha left Las Palmas with a daunting task.
Las Palmas, currently in 12th place in their return to the top flight, resiliently held on even with a numerical disadvantage.
However, Barcelona’s substitute Joao Felix made an immediate impact, assisting Raphinha with a perfectly lofted pass for a decisive header.
Although Joao Felix missed an opportunity to secure the win, striking the bar from close range, Barcelona breathed a sigh of relief as Las Palmas’ late attempt narrowly missed the mark.
Real Madrid will aim to extend their lead when they face Athletic Bilbao, while Barcelona prepares for their upcoming clash with their arch-rivals at the Bernabeu on April 21st.
