Ruthless Liverpool make it three straight with 3-1 win over Palace

Liverpool secured their third straight Premier League win by beating Crystal Palace 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday.

Alexander Isak and Andrew Robertson found the net in the opening half, and Florian Wirtz sealed the result in second-half stoppage time after Daniel Munoz had pulled one back for the away side.

A penalty initially given to Mohamed Salah was overturned before Isak showed great control to bring down a powerful strike from Alexis Mac Allister, then drove his shot into the turf and beyond Dean Henderson.

Freddie Woodman, Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper, produced an excellent save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta, sparking a swift counterattack that ended with Robertson calmly finishing Curtis Jones’ elegant through pass.

Palace reduced the deficit in controversial fashion, as Munoz chipped into an empty net while Woodman was receiving treatment after making a strong one-on-one save against Ismaila Sarr.

The visitors then pressed aggressively in search of an equaliser, but Wirtz eased Liverpool’s tension by firing a superb sliced half-volley into the top-left corner late in stoppage time.

**Data Debrief: Isak sets the tone**

Isak has had a season disrupted by injuries at Liverpool, spending nearly four months out following a broken leg in December, yet he delivered a timely display of his ability.

Each of his three Premier League goals for Liverpool has opened the scoring. Since 2022-23, only Erling Haaland (37) and Ollie Watkins (21) have registered more opening goals than his 19.

Woodman, stepping in for the injured Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili, made five saves in an impressive performance—including one against Mateta that led directly to Robertson’s goal.

There were just 15 seconds between that save (39:33) and the goal (39:48), marking Liverpool’s first fast-break goal in the league since January against Newcastle United.

Despite the defeat, Palace recorded more attempts (13 to nine) and more shots on target (seven to three). Their non-penalty xG of 2.32 is the highest by any visiting team at Anfield this season, and the largest since Arsenal posted 2.58 in May last year.
