Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint an interim manager for the rest of the season following the sacking of Thomas Frank earlier this week.
Frank was dismissed with Spurs just five points above the relegation zone, prompting the club to act as they seek to stabilise their campaign.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, sources say Tottenham are confident of finalising a deal for a temporary replacement before the squad returns to training on Monday.
After their FA Cup exit in the third round, Spurs have a nine-day break before facing rivals Arsenal in the north London derby on 22 February.
The first-team squad have been given time off and are expected back at training early next week.
Club officials acknowledge that managerial options are limited at this stage, with more candidates likely available in the summer.
Tottenham therefore plan to appoint an interim manager now and conduct a full search for a permanent successor at the season’s end.
However, the interim appointee could still be considered for the long-term role if results and performance improve significantly.
Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a north London return. Pochettino currently manages the United States men’s national soccer team, with his contract running until after this summer’s World Cup.
Another potential candidate is Roberto De Zerbi, who recently left Olympique de Marseille by mutual consent.
As Spurs approach a crucial run of fixtures, including the derby against Arsenal, the immediate priority is restoring stability and ensuring the club moves clear of the relegation battle before making a long-term managerial decision in the summer.
