Tottenham complete £25m deal for Radu Dragusin
Tottenham has secured the services of Romania defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa in Italy for a transfer fee of £25 million.
At 21 years old, Dragusin marks Tottenham’s second acquisition in the January transfer window, following the loan signing of German forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
The Romanian international, boasting 13 senior caps, notably started in all 22 matches for Serie A side Genoa this season. As part of the agreement, Spurs defender Djed Spence has been loaned to Genoa for the remainder of the season.
Securing a contract until the summer of 2030, Dragusin initiated his career at Juventus, with a loan stint at Genoa before making a permanent move last summer.
Despite interest from Bayern Munich, the German club has opted for Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Dier, a 29-year-old England international with 49 caps, faced challenges in securing a regular spot in Tottenham’s starting lineup this season.
He has embarked on a loan spell to Germany until the conclusion of the season, and Bayern holds the option to convert the arrangement into a permanent deal.
Tottenham has actively sought a central defender to provide reinforcement for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, both of whom have faced injury challenges this season.
To address the defensive gaps due to injuries in the back line, Postecoglou has deployed full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in central defense in recent weeks.
Spence’s season-long loan stint at Leeds was curtailed earlier this month, prompting his return to Spurs after featuring in only seven Championship appearances.
