USM Alger of Algeria defeated Rivers United 2-0 in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday night.
Evans Ogenyi’s squad entered the match holding a 1-0 aggregate advantage, aiming to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
However, Malian forward Abdullah Kanou had different plans for the Nigerian side, as he broke the deadlock for the hosts eight minutes before halftime.
Despite United’s Andy Ogbai coming close to leveling the score with a header that struck the crossbar, the aggregate remained tied at 1-1.
Unfortunately, Rivers United was eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after suffering a 2-0 loss to USMA of Algeria.
Kanou would ultimately seal the tie in the 74th minute, ensuring USM Alger’s progression to the semi-finals.
