Bayer Leverkusen became the first team in Bundesliga history to complete a league season unbeaten, keeping their hopes of an ‘invincible treble’ alive.

Xabi Alonso’s side had already clinched their first league title but added to their achievements with a 2-1 home victory over Augsburg on Saturday, ensuring an undefeated domestic campaign.

Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak now stands at 51 games across all competitions, breaking a 59-year-old UEFA record. They need just two more wins to secure a remarkable treble.

Next, they will face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin on Wednesday, followed by the German Cup final against second-tier Kaiserslautern three days later.

In a celebratory atmosphere, Leverkusen dominated Augsburg, with Victor Boniface scoring the opening goal in the 12th minute from an Amine Adli assist. Robert Andrich doubled the lead soon after with a close-range effort. Despite a second-half goal from Mert Komur, Leverkusen ended their league campaign on a high note.

Leverkusen have surpassed Benfica’s 49-game unbeaten run from 1963 to 1965. This season, they won 28 of their 34 Bundesliga matches, scoring 89 goals and conceding just 24.

Their last league defeat was a 3-0 loss to Bochum at the end of last season. If they remain unbeaten in all competitions, they will conclude the season with a 53-game undefeated streak.
