Wayne Rooney is set to enter discussions with Championship side Plymouth Argyle regarding their vacant head coach position.
Rooney, 38, is eager to rebuild his reputation following a disastrous stint at Birmingham last season, where he lost nine out of 15 matches.
Plymouth Argyle is in search of a new head coach after dismissing Ian Foster towards the end of the previous season.
Director of football Neil Dewsnip and coach Kevin Nancekivell stepped in for the remainder of the campaign, successfully guiding Plymouth to safety, ironically at the expense of Birmingham.
Dewsnip is familiar with Rooney from his time as a coach at Everton’s academy.
Rooney made 763 appearances during his playing career with Everton, Manchester United, MLS club DC United, and Derby.
He transitioned into a player-coach role with Derby in November 2020 and retired two months later after being appointed as the permanent manager.
The former England striker managed Derby for 85 games before returning to America to manage his former club DC United.
Rooney was appointed Birmingham manager in October 2023 but was dismissed in less than three months.
