We’re yet to receive Visa for 2026 World Cup –Iran

Iran’s national football team is still awaiting United States visas ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sparking concerns over travel arrangements and tournament preparations as the competition draws closer.

Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Mohammad Taghi Hosseini, said the delay has placed the team at a disadvantage compared to other nations preparing for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Iranian officials disclosed that players and members of the coaching crew have not yet received the necessary travel documents despite ongoing engagements involving FIFA and US authorities.

“We are not on equal terms with the other teams,” Hosseini said, noting that the visa issue has become a significant obstacle for the squad ahead of the World Cup.

The development comes against the backdrop of strained diplomatic ties between Tehran and Washington, as well as escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Iran had originally intended to establish its training camp in Tucson, Arizona, but later switched its base to Tijuana, Mexico, due to security and visa-related concerns.

FIFA confirmed the change earlier this week following consultations with Iranian football officials.

Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj also voiced concern over the situation, stating, “No visas have been issued yet.”

He explained that Iranian players were expected to travel to Turkey for fingerprinting and visa processing, although efforts were underway to complete the process in Antalya rather than Ankara.

Despite the challenges, FIFA has insisted that Iran will take part in the World Cup as planned.

The Asian side has been drawn in Group G alongside New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt, with matches scheduled to be played in Los Angeles and Seattle.

Iran secured qualification for the tournament after finishing top of its Asian qualifying group and will be making its seventh appearance at the World Cup.

FIFA has not publicly addressed the latest visa concerns, though Iranian officials say discussions with football authorities remain ongoing.
