Actor Nosa Rex denies using Junior Pope’s death for skit

The Nollywood actor Nosa Rex has refuted actress Ruby Orjiakor’s allegation that he turned Junior Pope’s boat accident into a skit.

Following a boat accident on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state, on April 10, Pope passed tragically. He was laid to rest in Nsukka, Igbo-Etiti LGA, Enugu state, on May 17.

A video that showed a director asking Rex to jump into a river on a movie set without wearing a life jacket went viral last Sunday.

The actor seemed to be confronting the director of the film in the video, demanding that a treasure be taken out of the river.

The moment, according to Rex, was not in the original script. He plunged into the river and was eventually apprehended, battling for his life.

Rex came under fire for the sketch, with Orjiakor accusing the actor of writing the lines to make fun of Pope’s passing.

Additionally, she claimed that Adanma Luke, the producer of the film in which Pope was going to star, had no regrets regarding his passing.

‘’I came to pray specifically for you super stat (Akpa Swag) Your Legacy will never be forgotten. I also want to let you know that Baba Rex your own man has started using what happened to you as content. Everybody dey find their belle, no one cares, if only you listened to me,” she wrote.

“Again, @adanmaluke instead of feeling guilty for what happened to you and others, she was busy telling the whole world how you were begging her for jobs. I believe you can now understand better how wicked the world is.

“May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ.”

Reacting to Orjiakor’s claim, Rex said the intention for creating the video is to “pass a positive message to prevent further mistakes”.

“For the real fans and real friends. I was supposed to shoot a scene as seen above (scene 71 and 72). Immediately I got into the set I told the director I will never step my foot into any river, sir you already know why,” he wrote via his Instagram page.
“The director said the script says but anyway let’s reconstruct it. I understand. Then again I asked myself what if I was an upcomer who didn’t have a say ? that means I will have to follow the script and jump in?
“I said director please let me create something to pass a message that you can actually refuse to do risky things on set and when you have a reasonable director like mine he will understand.

“God sees my heart. That was my intention and nothing more. I will never create a content to mock my late friend instead I will pass a positive message to prevent further mistakes. Together we can make Nollywood a better place

“To my real fans and friends who saw the content from the positive side. Thank you.”
