Funke Akindele’s latest film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ has achieved the milestone of becoming the first Nollywood movie to gross over N1 billion at the box office.

In just three weeks following its release, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ generated N1 billion.

FilmHouse Group CEO, Kene Okwuosa, declared this historic accomplishment in a statement on Thursday, highlighting that the global audience is experiencing a golden era for Nigerian cinema.

“Akindele’s film has not only captivated audiences but has also proven the resilience of Nigerian cinema in the face of global streaming giants like Netflix and Prime Video,” the statement added.

‘A Tribe Called Judah’ achieved the distinction of being the first Nollywood film to exceed N113 million in its debut weekend after its release on December 15, 2023, in cinemas.

It’s worth noting that Funke’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ grossed N650 million at the box office in 2022.
