How to reset a Frozen Computer

131

If your computer is frozen (not responding), you can reset it safely using these steps:

1. Try simple fixes first

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
    • On Windows, this may bring up options like Task Manager or restart.
  • Try Alt + F4 to close the active program.
  • Move the mouse or press keys to confirm it’s truly frozen.

2. Force close programs

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  • Select the unresponsive app → click End Task

3. Restart the computer

If nothing responds:

  • Press and hold the Power button for about 5–10 seconds until the computer turns off.
  • Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to turn it back on.

4. If it keeps freezing

  • Disconnect external devices (USB, mouse, etc.)
  • Check for overheating (let it cool down)
  • Run system updates or antivirus scan

Important tip ⚠️

Force shutdown can cause loss of unsaved work, so only use it if other options fail.
