The Nigerian Government will commence repair work on the damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8.
The two-week rehabilitation project is expected to run until September 22, 2026, according to a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Sunday.
The development follows an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works that repair work would be carried out on the affected section of the busy highway.
The project was initially scheduled to begin in August but was suspended to allow for further traffic management planning following public concerns over the short notice given to motorists.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, directed the rehabilitation, which involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge.
The ministry said the work was necessary to improve road safety, protect the structural integrity of the bridge and ensure smoother traffic movement along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Government advised motorists using the corridor to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of the repairs.
To reduce the impact of the project on traffic, the government said one half of the affected section would be closed at a time, while motorists would use the remaining open half in turns.
Motorists have also been urged to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the rehabilitation period.
The government expressed hope that the work would be completed within the scheduled two weeks, after which normal traffic operations would resume along the affected section.
