Discussions regarding a potential sequel to the popular Netflix series Shanty Town have been abruptly paused due to an ongoing legal dispute between co-producers Ini Edo and Chinenye Nworah concerning the ownership of the series.

A dispute has allegedly risen between Ini Edo and Chinenye Nworah regarding the ownership of the television series they co-produced, titled ‘Shanty Town.’

According to report, Ini Edo has  issued a cease and desist letter to Netflix, urging the streaming service to refrain from entering into any agreements with Nworah due to her co-ownership status in the venture.

However, Nworah was said to have claimed that she is the only owner of the blockbuster movie.

In a leaked cease-and-desist warning letter dispatched by lawyers representing Ini Edo to Netflix, the actress insists on an immediate cessation of discussions regarding the sequel. She asserts co-ownership and rights to the production, as stated in part of the letter:

“It has come to our client’s attention that Netflix is currently negotiating a sequel to the cinematograph film – Shanty Town with Ms Chinenye Nworahand Giant Creative Media Limited (GCM) without the consent, knowledge or waiver of our client as co-owners of the intellectual property rights over the work Shanty Town.

“Please be advised that Ms Chineye Nworah and GCM are not the sole owners of the intellectual property rights over the Cinematograph film Shanty Town. Our clients are co-owners of the intellectual property rights and they have not authorised, permitted or sanctioned Ms Chinenye Nworah and GCM to discuss any sequel with Netflix on its behalf.”

In a counter-response facilitated by her legal representatives, Chinonye refuted any suggestion of shared ownership with Ini Edo, categorizing the latter’s claims as “false and malicious.”

The cast of the series includes Ini Edo, Richard Mofe–Damijo, Chidi Mokeme, Nse Ikpe–Etim, Shola Sobowale, Shaffy Bello, Ali Nuhu, Uche Jombo, Zubby Michael, Omowunmi Dada, Mercy Eke, Regina Daniels, Judith Audu, Toyin Abraham, and Peter Okoye of P-Square.
