Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has referred the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) petition against Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, to the Police Command at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed on Tuesday that the petition concerns Kwam 1’s attempt to block a moving ValueJet aircraft on 5 August 2025, an act that sparked public outrage and demands for his arrest.
The NCAA had urged the IGP and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to order a “comprehensive criminal investigation” and prosecute the singer, a known ally of President Bola Tinubu. The regulator also imposed a six-month ban on him, warning airlines that flying him could cost them their licence.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo condemned the incident as “unacceptable and reprehensible.” Kwam 1 later issued an apology video, but critics accused authorities of selective justice, pointing to the recent remand of unruly Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The police have pledged to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure justice is served.
