Nigeria has officially secured a spot in the Guinness World Records for hosting the largest gathering of teachers, after 5,082 educators converged at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on September 20, 2025, during the Let There Be Teachers Conference.

The record-setting event was organised by Oluwaseyi Anifowose in collaboration with Let There Be Teachers and 1 Million Teachers (1MT). Guinness World Records validated the achievement after a comprehensive review of steward reports, witness testimonies, photographs, and video evidence.

“This record is not just about numbers — it is about the dignity, resilience, and impact of teachers,” said Hakeem Subair, Founder and CEO of 1 Million Teachers. “At a time when education faces unprecedented challenges, Nigeria has shown the world that teachers are the true nation builders — the ones who carry the future in their classrooms.”

The historic occasion brought educators from across Nigeria together, sending a strong message about the significance of teachers and the urgent need for greater investment in the teaching profession. Organisers described it as more than just a conference — but a movement to raise the profile of teachers in national development.

The official Guinness World Records certificate reads:

“The largest gathering of teachers was achieved by Oluwaseyi Anifowose, Let There Be Teachers, and 1 Million Teachers (all Nigeria) in Lagos, Nigeria, on 20 September 2025.”

With this recognition, Nigeria strengthens its position as a global voice for education advocacy. The milestone also reflects the broader mission of 1 Million Teachers, committed to training, empowering, and celebrating educators across Africa and beyond.

According to Let There Be Teachers and 1MT, they will continue leveraging such platforms to influence education policies and encourage young professionals to embrace teaching as a noble and transformative career.
