Nicki Minaj has commended former US President Donald Trump after he announced the redesignation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern”.

The declaration, made by Trump on Friday, referenced allegations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, blaming radical Islamists for the “mass slaughter.”

The former president also revealed plans to direct the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the issue immediately.

Reacting to the announcement via her X account, Minaj expressed gratitude for the freedom of worship enjoyed in the United States and emphasised that no group should suffer persecution because of their faith.

“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” she wrote.

The rapper further urged her followers to recognise the growing threat of religious violence worldwide and to pray for those affected.

“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer,” she added.

A “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) is designated by the US Secretary of State under the president’s authority for nations that demonstrate a consistent pattern of religious intolerance or persecution.

Nigeria was first added to the CPC list in 2020, during Trump’s first term in office, but was later removed under the Joe Biden administration.
