The family and associates of the late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu have announced that all earlier publicised burial arrangements have been completely called off.

Akinnaanu passed away on January 12 after a long and widely known battle with a serious leg condition.

In the months leading up to her death, she had sought prayers and healing, which attracted widespread sympathy from fans and members of the music community.

Earlier burial plans, shared by fellow gospel singer Alayo Melody, had outlined a programme spanning several days.

Plans included a service of songs, a candlelight procession, and a tribute night on Tuesday, January 20, at the LTV 8 ground in Ikeja, Lagos. A private interment service for family and close allies was set for January 21.

However, those plans have now been formally called off.

In a video post shared on Instagram on Sunday, Lanre Alewilese, a colleague of the late singer, announced that the burial planning committee made the decision due to an “internal crisis” within Akinnaanu’s family.

The post revealed that all arrangements are “CANCELLED totally” and that the family will communicate a new date to the public at a later time.

“This is to inform you that all plans & arrangements for the burial of our Late Sister & Colleague; *Lady Evang. Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. OMIJE OJUMI by the Burial Planning Committee has been CANCELLED totally,” the post reads.

“This decision becomes necessary due to some issues arising from & within her family.

“We are deeply sorry & regret the inconveniences sir/ma.”
