Bayern Munich have officially announced that midfielder Leon Goretzka will depart the club at the end of the season after his contract runs out.

The club’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, confirmed that the 29-year-old will stay with Bayern until the end of the current campaign before leaving as a free agent in the summer.

In a statement shared by Fabrizio Romano on Friday, Freund said, “Leon Goretzka will leave FC Bayern in the summer as a free agent, not now. Leon’s time at FC Bayern will be over in the summer. He will go another way after 8 successful years. We’ll fight together in the coming months to achieve big things.”

The announcement makes clear that there will be no early exit, with Bayern counting on Goretzka to remain part of the squad for the rest of the season.

Goretzka joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018 and has played a significant role during one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

While at Bayern, he claimed several Bundesliga titles, domestic trophies and the UEFA Champions League.

Although competition for places has increased in recent seasons, the German international has continued to serve as a senior and experienced member of the squad.

Both Bayern and Goretzka will now concentrate on their remaining targets for the season before the midfielder moves on to the next phase of his career this summer.
