Family withholds news of Nollywood actress mother’s passing while holding birthday bash

Nollywood actress Fathia Williams, formerly known as Fathia Balogun, has announced the death of her mother, barely 24 hours after her birthday party.

Sharing the news on her Instagram page on Monday, Williams revealed that her birthday fell on Friday, but she held the celebration on Sunday, unaware that her mother had passed away the night before. She described the timing as an act of “cruelty.”

Reflecting on her loss, she admitted that the reality of her mother’s death has yet to fully sink in, while praising her late mother and finding comfort in God Almighty.

Williams noted that her family has opted to keep the matter private for now and will provide details of the burial arrangements later. She also requested prayers from the public during this difficult period.

The actress, who shares her birthday with her ex-husband, Saheed Balogun, had publicly sent him birthday wishes, to which he responded with goodwill messages.

Her birthday party, held over the weekend, was widely celebrated online, with videos from the event capturing memorable moments attended by Nollywood actors and skit makers in grand style.
