Nigerian creatives were among the standout winners at the 79th , held Sunday at the in London. Actress and the Nigerian-made film My Father’s Shadow secured major honours on the night.
Mosaku won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sinners, reinforcing her status as one of the most prominent African actors working across British and international cinema. The win adds to her BAFTA record, having previously claimed the same category in 2017 for Damilola, Our Loved Boy.
My Father’s Shadow, directed by Nigerian brothers and , took home Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, reflecting the expanding global reach of Nigerian storytelling.
Set in Lagos during the 1993 election crisis, the film follows a father and his two sons navigating political unrest. It previously made history as the first Nigerian production selected for the official lineup of the , where it premiered in the Un Certain Regard section to critical acclaim.
The ceremony was hosted by and celebrated the best films of 2025. The biggest winner of the night was One Battle After Another, which earned six awards, including Best Film and Best Director for .
