The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has said Nigeria is recording significant progress in the fight against terrorism, including the elimination of several insurgent leaders and improved defence cooperation with the United Kingdom.

Speaking during an interview on Sky News UK on Thursday, Dare stated that recent military operations have dealt a major blow to terrorist groups, particularly in the North-East.

Responding to recent attacks in Borno State, he said the federal government had intensified counter-insurgency efforts, resulting in the killing of 67 terrorist leaders and fighters.

He explained that sustained military offensives are forcing insurgents out of their strongholds and ungoverned areas, leading to isolated attacks as they attempt to regroup.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has directed service chiefs and senior military commanders to remain actively engaged on the ground to ensure that terrorists are consistently dislodged.

“We have seen the quick response of the president, making it clear that Nigeria will never surrender to terrorist groups,” Dare said.

He added that as security forces continue to dismantle terrorist enclaves, the displacement of insurgents into new areas can sometimes trigger sporadic attacks.

Dare also addressed concerns regarding religious persecution, noting that terrorist attacks in Nigeria affect both Christians and Muslims. He added that the country is confronting transnational terrorist networks linked to instability in the Sahel region, porous borders, and the proliferation of illegal arms.
