A prominent actress in the Yoruba film industry, Debbie Shokoya, has dismissed rumours alleging that she identified Fuji star Abass Akande Obesere as her biological father.

The speculation originated from a Facebook post claiming that the actress had confessed the veteran singer was her real father, stating she could no longer keep it a secret.

“Obesere is my biological father – actress Debbie Shokoya disclose “it’s time, i couldn’t keep it anymore!” the post reads.

“Popular Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has made a shocking confession, revealing to the public that veteran fuji musician Abass Akande Obesere is her biological Father.”

However, in a video shared on Instagram, Shokoya debunked the claims, describing them as a deliberate attempt to attract online attention.

She explained that although she initially found the report amusing, she chose to respond after it began to gain widespread traction, stressing that she has no connection with the singer.

“My attention was drawn to it yesterday that a blog on Facebook claimed I cried out that Obesere is my father. It was funny to me at first; it felt like Facebook clickbait, so I didn’t want to address it,” she said.

“But now it isn’t funny anymore, the news is everywhere. People are posting it, including my family, asking when I granted an interview saying that.

“So I decided to address it now so people won’t think I actually said it for clout. I have never seen him before. Don’t I look like my father? Am I not my biological father’s replica?”

In the caption accompanying her post, the actress firmly reiterated that Obesere is not her father and urged the public to disregard the rumour.

“Obesere is not my biological father. Please stop spreading fake news. Stop writing or posting things I never said. Some commentators don’t even think before reacting; they just start throwing insults,” she wrote.

“I have never said or written this, nor did I cry out as they claimed. Please stop spreading false news. Bloggers should also post this video the same way they were quick to share that misinformation.”
