The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that it is fully prepared to conduct a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election in Ekiti State on June 20, with plans to transmit results electronically to improve transparency.
Speaking on Monday in Ado Ekiti, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, said the commission was making steady progress in line with its election timetable and activities schedule.
“The Commission has made substantial progress in its preparations, guided by our strategic election timetable and schedule of activities. We remain committed to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent election in Ekiti State,” he said.
He urged eligible voters to come out peacefully on election day and participate in the process.
According to him, INEC will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for voter verification, while results will be transmitted electronically to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) to boost transparency.
“The commission will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for voter accreditation and authentication. Election results will be transmitted electronically to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) to enhance transparency,” he added.
Omoseyindemi also noted that security arrangements had been strengthened through collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure a peaceful election.
He further disclosed that voter education, recruitment and training of ad hoc staff, and logistics preparations were all ongoing, with the commission also addressing issues such as voter apathy, vote buying, and security risks.
He reminded voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that “No PVC, no voting.”
