The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing of Esohe Aigbe, a 30-year-old decorator in the state.

The incident occurred on May 27 at Ojo Street in the Ogida area of Benin City, where Aigbe had gone to assist a friend in decorating a venue for a burial ceremony.

Reports indicate that after completing her assignment, she encountered a group of unidentified individuals, and what initially began as a disagreement allegedly escalated into a violent attack.

Confirming the arrest, Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson in the state, said one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

She explained that preliminary findings have linked a woman identified as Faith Ogereji to the murder, adding that the suspect has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the state police headquarters while investigations continue to track other accomplices.

“So far, the investigation has been ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the murder of the late Ms Aigbe,” she said.

“We have one suspect, a female suspect, in custody. One Ogereji. We have reason to suspect that she is linked or connected to the murder of the late Ms Esohe.”

Meanwhile, the brother of the deceased, David Agibe, said his sister’s bag was recovered at the location where she had gone to work.

“This is what she does for a living. They killed her and dropped her close to the main house. This is my sister’s bag. This is her job that she did. They killed and called me to come and carry her body,” he said.
