Arsenal celebrate Premier League glory with London Trophy, parade despite European heartbreak

Thousands of Arsenal supporters set aside their disappointment at missing out on European success on Sunday as the club marked its first Premier League title since 2004 with a victory parade in London.

Reams of fans lined the streets in the north of the British capital to catch a glimpse of their heroes as they paraded the Premier League trophy on the upper deck of an open-top bus.

Dressed in the club’s iconic red and white colours, supporters sang, cheered, waved flags and set off flares as they celebrated being champions of England for the first time in 22 years.

Some fans climbed trees, rooftops and traffic lights in a bid to see Arsenal FC and manager Mikel Arteta during the celebrations.

Arsenal were confirmed Premier League champions on 19 May after second-placed Manchester City drew away at Bournemouth.

However, their attempt at a historic double ended in disappointment on Saturday, when they lost the Champions League final on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.

Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães missed in the shoot-out after the match ended 1–1 following extra time. Kai Havertz had given Arsenal an early lead before Ousmane Dembélé equalised from the spot.

Despite the European setback, the Premier League triumph marked Arsenal’s first league title in 22 years, following three consecutive seasons as runners-up.

The parade began shortly after 2:00 pm and was scheduled to last about two hours along a nine-kilometre route near the Emirates Stadium in Islington.

Four buses took part in the celebrations, including one carrying the Arsenal Women’s team, who earlier won the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup in February.
