The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the killing of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, when gunmen reportedly opened fire on them in a commando-style assault and fled with their AK-47 rifles. One of the officers suffered severe gunshot injuries, leading to the amputation of a leg before he later died in hospital.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe, said the arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for a swift investigation and the recovery of the stolen weapons.
According to the command, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit tracked the suspects to their hideout through intelligence-led operations.
The suspects were identified as Maduabuchi Emeka, also known as “Doctor,” Chinedu Owhor and Kamachi Joe, all from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Police recovered three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle during the operation. Investigators said one of the suspects had also linked the gang to other murder cases under investigation.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest a fourth suspect still at large and recover additional weapons, while reaffirming its commitment to tackling violent crime across the state.
