While concerted efforts are being made to rescue about 300 residents abducted in Kuriga and Goni Gora areas of Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, the bandits terrorising the state stepped up their game between Monday night and Tuesday morning and allegedly abducted another 30 persons in Buda village, Kajuru local government area of the state.
A source, who spoke in confidence, hinted that the kidnappers came in their usual commando style with sophisticated weapons and operated for hours unchallenged.
Recently, the state has become a hotspot of kidnapping and other sophisticated crimes, most of which go unreported owing to a fear of the unknown.
According to the source, “a lot of criminal operations have been happening in Kajuru in recent years, but leaders of the affected communities are hesitant of speaking to the press due to a lack of security for their lives and that of their subjects.
“As we speak, we still have a lot of our people in the kidnappers’ den before this latest attack. We have not heard from them since”.
Kajuru, Chikun, Birnin Gwari, and Giwa have broad ‘ungoverned’ boundaries, increasing the possibility that the bandits terrorising these four local government regions have anything in common.
Coincidentally, the latest incident in Kajuru occurred just before the Inspector General of Police Kayode Agbetokun’s scheduled official visit to the state.
As of the time of reporting this article, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has issued an official statement regarding the situation.
